~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Each of us steers a Life boat of our own sailing towards Dream, towards where it's needed, towards where we're allowed to.
With what we like and dislike, with what makes us happy and unhappy.
With full right to privacy we can share with whom we feel like doing it.
Em tempo de praxe - I I
Retomando o que iniciei ontem...
... Sentira já um movimento e barulho estranhos pelo Porto: Não me passava pela cabeça que era toda a panóplia de actividades de recepção aos caloiros da Universidade do Porto. Uma vez na Rua de St. Catarina, vejo um grupo enorme de jovens que cantavam, ajoelhados, em frente ao Hotel do Porto.
Claro está que não quis deixar de registar o momento.
O que é certo é que a minha atitude foi notada e logo me vi rodeada por muitas caras pintadas que, com um sorriso de orelha a orelha, cantavam "Linda donzela vem à janela..." e estemdiam a mão para uma moedita qur viesse fazer aumentar o pecúlio de suporte às festividaes académicas de todo o ano (suponho eu!!) . Acedi ao inesperado pedido e ainda tive de brinde três rebuçados e muitos pares de olhos a brilhar. Mais à frente estavam os "doutores", armados de colher de pau e de viola, que de longe controlavam a turba dos "caloiros". Uma delas ainda me reconheceu. Fiquei contente por a rever e de saber que estava em Bio-química, no 3º Ano (ainda!)
Muito bem!... Mas... Há um "mas" em tudo isto. A praxe em si. A atitude de pedir. A minha anuência ao pedido.
A praxe pode ter vertentes interessantes mas há exigências abomináveis!
O pedir? Há pessoas que pedem porque têm fome. Quantas vezes estes reagem ao montante da moeda que lhes é dada ou não são pobres coisa nenhuma!Daí que me tenha decidido a não dar dinheiro a ninguém com excepção das organizações de caridade publicamente conhecidas.
Fiquei com "comichão" na minha consciência! Afinal também não sei se contribui para alguma festa!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I had already felt a strange and unusual hustle and bustle throughout Porto. I hadn't thought all was caused by the different activities connected with the reception of the new university students.
When I got to St. Catarina St. (pedestrian zone in the city-centre!) I saw a big group of them kneeling and singing right before Hotel do Porto.
It's obvious I wanted to snap it all. As soon I was spotted doing it, a group of about 30 of them came to me and I saw myself surrounded by painted smiling faces who were singing the song I posted yesterday while their open begging hands were trying to get some coin out of me
to make their income for the academic celebrations grow.
As I agreed on giving them what they were looking for, I was even rewarded with some sweets and many pairs of twinkling eyes.
A bit farther on there was a group of more advanced university students dressed as they usually do when time for these traditional happenings comes( black outfit and gown) holding a guitar and a gigantic wooden spoon controlling the whole scene. One of them recognised me. I was happy to meet her again and to learn she was attending Bio-Chemistry in the 3rd year (still!)
Very well! But... Yes there is a "but in all this. This tradition. The fact they were begging. My agreement to their request.
This tradition can be interesting but sometimes what is required from these freshmen is really incredible.
The fact they were begging? Also! There are people begging because they are hungry! However they often overreact if they find insignificant the amount of money they are given. And there's so much fake poverty!That explains why I now give money only to publicly recognised charities. My conscience ached with all this! After all I don't even know whether I really contributed to any party at all!

Em tempo de praxes

ONDAS DO DOURO
*****************
Hoje foi a canção que me ficou no ouvido! Ouvi-a por toda a Baixa e...
... o resto ...
... conto amanhã!

This time of the year means a lot to young people who have managed to eventually get into university.
The newcomers have to go through a whole bunch of traditions imposed on them by those who are already attending university.
The above song lyrics belongs to the many typical student music groups sing and everyone knows it by heart
************************
It was this song that I kept in my ear today. I heard it all through the city-centre and...
... the rest ...
... I'll tell about it tomorrow!

Em tempo de colheitas

Frutos

Pêssegos, peras, laranjas,
morangos, cerejas, figos,
maçãs, melão, melancia,
ó música de meus sentidos,
pura delícia da língua;
deixai-me agora falar
do fruto que me fascina,
pelo sabor, pela cor,
pelo aroma das sílabas:
tangerina, tangerina.
Eugénio de Andrade

Fruit

Peaches, pears, oranges,
strawberries, cherries, figs,
apples, melon, honey dew,
oh, music of my senses,
pure pleasure of the tongue;
let me speak now
of fruit that fascinate,
with the flavour, with the hues,
with the fragrance of their syllables:
oh tangerine, oh tangerine.

Outono

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Feeling in words doesn't seem to be the same as only felt Feeling.
When we come to put down in words what is not to be expressed that way, we see ourselves before something strange and we can't often come to anything written at all.
I have some attempts to define Feeling here with me and I enjoyed reading them. Feeling is today's post subject.
All these "Feelings" come from people whosw average age is 13, 14.
Joana Filipa says: "I enjoy Feeling but sometimes I don't like feeling the way I do because I feel like crying but I think Feeling is good in spite of hurting. It's a very nice sensation."
Isn't it nice to write Feeling this way?
Cantiga d'amigo
CANTIGA D’AMIGO
Levou-s’a louçana, levou-s’a velida:
vay lavar cabelos, na fontana fria.
Leda dos amores, dos amores leda.
Levou-s’a velida, levou-s’a louçana:
vay lavar cabelos, na fria fontana.
Leda dos amores, dos amores leda.
Vay lavar cabelos, na fontana fria:
passa seu amigo, que lhi ben queria.
Leda dos amores, dos amores leda.
Vay lavar cabelos, na fria fontana:
passa seu amigo, que a muyt’amava.
Leda dos amores, dos amores leda.
Passa seu amigo, que lhi ben queria:
o cervo do monte a áugua volvia.
Leda dos amores, dos amores leda.
Passa seu amigo, que a muyt’amava:
o cervo do monte volvia a áugua.
Leda dos amores, dos amores leda.
SONG ABOUT A GIRL AT A SPRING
She wakes up fresh, she wakes up fair:
she goes to the spring to wash her hair.
Happily in love, in love she’s happy.
She wakes up fair, she wakes up fresh:
she goes to the spring to wash her face.
Happily in love, in love she’s happy.
She goes to the spring to wash her hair:
her adoring boyfriend meets her there.
Happily in love, in love she’s happy.
She goes to the spring to wash her face:
there she meets her enamored friend.
Happily in love, in love she’s happy.
Her adoring boyfriend meets her there:
a mountain stag makes the waters stir.
Happily in love, in love she’s happy.
There she meets her enamored friend:
a mountain stag makes the waters wave.
Happily in love, in love she’s happy.
Respostas
Decidida a quebrar o gelo dos primeiros momentos, a Professora olhou para todos eles e disse:
"Será que vão ser capazes de resolver esta tarefa? Pois bem... Olhem para vocês, bem lá dentro, e encontrem um objecto com que se identifiquem! Não se esqueçam de justificar!"
Caras surpeendidas. Naquelas cabeças, pensamentos rápidos como um flash, a conclusão de que a Prof. se tinha"passado".
Silêncio... Alguns escrevinhavam qualquer coisa. Outros nem sequer conseguiram recuperar-se do choque da atribuição de tal tarefa!
Aqueles momentos devem ter-lhes parecido eternidades!
A voz da Professora volta a ecoar, em decidido "ataque":
"Então?? Vamos lá a ver... Tu, como tu chamas?"
A resposta veio a princípio sumida: "Rita."
"E que me vais dizer?"
"Que sou uma página em branco aberta à sua imaginação! Nela pode escrever o que imaginar em relação a mim!"
A Professora achou bonita esta resposta ousadamente original e imaginativa. E elogiou. E a Rita sorriu de orelha a orelha, e olhou penetrante e deixou que o olhar também penetrante da Professora se cruzasse com o seu sem que se desviasse.
E a Professora continuou. "E tu? Quem és?"
"Sou a Filipa", respondeu timidamente quem a Professora já conhecia desde pequenita mas com quem nunca houvera outros contactos para além de um "Olá!" de fugida.
"Então, Filipa? Tenho uma resposta para mim?"
"Uma nota de música!", disse a Filipa com os olhos a brilhar.
"Uma nota de música? Como assim?"
"Uma nota de música, sim. Música é a minha Vida"!
A Professora achou bonita esta resposta sentida.
E houve, bolas de futebol e andebol, avião, Ferrari, e outros mais.
E... o gelo quebrou-se! ...
The teacher was decided to break the first moment ice. She looked at all of them and said:
"Will you ever be able to perform the task I'm going to give you? Well... Look at yourselves deep inside you and try to find an object you identify yourselves with.Don't forget to get your choice a support."
Surprised faces. In those heads, quick thoughts like flashes led them to the conclusion the teacher had gone nuts.
Silence... Some were scribbling something. Others couldn't even overcome the shock of having been "awarded" such a task!
Those moments surely looked like eternity.
The teacher's voice echoed again, in a decided "attack":
"Well... Let's see.... You! What's your name?"
The answer came in a whisper:"Rita"
"And what are you going to tell me"
"That I am an empty sheet of paper open to your imagination!You can write on it what you imagine me to be like!"
The teacher found this answer daringly original and imaginative. And she praised the girl. Rita made a broad smile looking straight into the teacher's eyes allowing the teacher the same attitude.
And the teacher went on. "And you? Who are you?"
"I'm Filipa", she answered timidly. The teacher knew her since she was little but there hadn't been any further contact besides a simple Hello
"Well, Filipa? Have I got an answer from you?"
"A musical note!" said Filipa and her eyes looked like sparkling stars.
"A musical note? How come?"
"Yes a musical note. Music is my Life!"
The teacher found this emotional answer beautiful.
And there were footballs and handballs, a plane, a Ferrari and some more.
And.. .the ice broke! ...
Divagando
A Harpa entoa a melodia sussurrada pela Sabedoria Mítica.
A corrente movimenta o barco em notas de Infinito.
Da brancura das flores emergem chamas em Paixão.
Em êxtase metafísico a simbiose com o Universo.
The Harpsichord plays the melody whispered by the Mythical Wisdom.
The stream makes the boat move in Infiniteness notes.
From the flower whites there are flames emerging in Passion.
In methaphysical ecstasy the symbiosis with the Universe happens.
Sentimentalismos de fim de semana!
Hoje deu-me para sentimentalismo e para vir para aqui falar de...
Amigos!
Em tempos de tanto materialismo são algo de precioso.
Por isso...falar neles...sabe bem e nunca é tema esgotado.
GOSTO dos meus Amigos!
Dos Amigos com quem contacto diariamente (que têm uma "pachorra" imensa em me aturar!), dos Amigos virtuais dos quais conheço alguns pessoalmente (que também têm "aparado" as minhas pancas!Que até aqui se notam! :/ )
Enfim...
Como se faria numa redacção do agora 1º ciclo -
"Eu gosto muito dos meus Amigos, os meus Amigos são os meus Amigos e ter Amigos é BOM"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Today I had this sentimentalism fit and I am here to say something about ...
Friends!
They are to be treasured in these times of so much materialism.
In this way... when we speak about them ... feels great and they are never a wornout subject.
I LOVE my Friends!
I LOVE those Friends I get in touch with every day ( who are very patient to be able to put up with me as they do!), those virtual Friends : some I already know, others I've never seen (who have also been patient enough to bear my fits! They can even be noticed here! :/)
Oh well...
Like a kid would write in a primary school composition:
"I love my Friends, my Friends are my Friends and it's GOOD to have Friends!"

Regresso - Algumas considerações

Tudo regressa!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Everything gets back!
New faces, faces already known, the excitement of all those who meet old friends and are eager to get to know the unknown.
But...
The uncertainty of what has been said and imposed on those who will be teaching is a stressing reality.
Those who impose aren't exactly aware of what they are imposing.
Those who have to perforn the imposed task don't exactly know what sort of task they have to perform.
It is this the singular situation those who enjoy doing what they are doing ( who still have plans to do even better than what they've been doing for so many years) have to face.
But...
You must know how to do things if you are in command.
You must respect if you want to be respected.
You must give the example, if you want to be followed.
And...
This is not what is happening in this ship called Country which hasn't found the right route towards what real progress really is.
Radicalismo
Se GOSTO, GOSTO!
Se NÃO GOSTO , NÃO GOSTO!
Sou como sou!
Se gostam, tudo bem!
Se não gostam, paciência!
Se faço asneira, gosto que me corrijam!
Se faço alguma coisa bem, o elogio cala cá no fundo mas... sem lisonja colante!
Desculpem o desabafo!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If I LIKE something, I DO LIKE it!
If I DON'T like something, I DON'T LIKE it!
I am as I am!
If you like it, it's ok!
If you don't like it, you have to bear me so!
If I do something wrong, I like being corrected!
If I do something well, praising makes me feel fulfilled but... not done in a sticky flattering way!
Sorry for all this writing about this stuff!

Leituras

"Minhas Senhoras e meu Senhores,
Eu sou o Coelho Letrado!
Ler é a minha grande paixão!
Quem me chame coelho marado.
Quero lá saber!
É que eu gosto mesmo de ler!
Tenho dito!"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Ladies and Gentlemen!
I'm the Learned Rabbit!
Reading is my passion!
All the ritual of the get-together with a book is outstanding! In spite of the new technologies.
I love going to a bookshop and walking by my patners-to-be during my leisure hours.
I enjoy picking them and read their content here and there.
I like observing the covers, getting to know more about the maker of the world in which I'll live if I ever come to eventually bring them home with me.
There are people who can't understand me, who say I'm nuts.
I don't care!
What matters is that I really like reading!
That's all!"
Receita para fim de semana
Receita para fazer azul - Nuno Júdice (1994)
Se quiseres fazer azul,
pega num pedaço de céu e mete-o numa panela grande,
que possas levar ao lume do horizonte;
depois mexe o azul com um resto de vermelho
da madrugada, até que ele se desfaça;
despeja tudo num bacio bem limpo,
para que nada reste das impurezas da tarde.
Por fim, peneira um resto de ouro da areia
do meio-dia, até que a cor pegue ao fundo de metal.
Se quiseres, para que as cores se não desprendam
com o tempo, deita no líquido um caroço de pêssego queimado.
Vê-lo-ás desfazer-se, sem deixar sinais de que alguma vez
ali o puseste; e nem o negro da cinza deixará um resto de ocre
na superfície dourada. Podes, então, levantar a cor
até à altura dos olhos, e compará-la com o azul autêntico.
Ambas as cores te parecerão semelhantes, sem que
possas distinguir entre uma e outra.
Assim o fiz – eu, Abraão ben Judá Ibn Haim,
iluminador de Loulé – e deixei a receita a quem quiser,
algum dia, imitar o céu.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Recipe for Making the Colour Blue (translated by Richard Zenith- 1997)

If you wish to make the colour blue
take a piece of sky and put it in a pot
large enough to place on the flame of the horizon.
Stir into the blue a pinch of early morning red
until it dissolves. Pour everything
into a brass bowl that has been well washed
to eliminate all of the afternoon’s impurities.
Finally, sift in a few smidgens of gold from the sand
of midday until the colour adheres to the bottom of the bowl.
To prevent the colours from separating with time,
drop a charred peach pit into the liquid.
It will disintegrate, leaving no telltale
sign, not even – from the black ash – an ochre trace
on the golden surface. You may then raise the colour
to eye level and compare it with genuine blue.
The two colours will look so alike
that you cannot distinguish one from the other.
This was how I did it – I, Abraham ben Judah Ibn Haim,
illuminator from the town of Loulé. And I left the recipe
for whoever, one day, would imitate the sky

"Gramaticando"

conjugando o presente do indicativo do verbo "falar":
eu falo
tu falas
ele, ela blablabla
nós falamos
vós blablabla
eles blablabla

(when I'm working on the computor I always have the radio on!)

I felt motivated to show my grammar knowledge by posting here the simple present of the verb "to speak":

we speak
you blablabla
they blablabla

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It's in the mirror of my memory that I get back to my naughty side as a child, to the happy moments I experienced then, to the smells and noises, to the adventures and misfortunes of a spoilt childhood.
I see myself happily passing through the times that led me into maturity.
All that experience made me into what I am now and gave me a Past I enjoy recollecting and that soothens my Present when worries get bigger.
Não. Não sou eu que tenho maus hábitos!
É apenas o nome de um restaurante "veggie" mesmo em frente ao Coliseu, num 4º andar.
É um espaço agradável, come-se bem e a preço módico, de 2ª a 6ª feira. Almoços e jantares.
Fui lá na passada Quinta- feira e vou voltar.
No. It's not me who has bad habits!
It's the real name of a veggie restaurant right opposite "Coliseu" (a well-known theatre in Porto), on the 4th floor.
I went there last Thursday and will get back.
By the way ...
I have no share for publicising!
Ingénuo tributo à Minha Cidade
Nesta minha Cidade
Nesta minha Cidade
Há encantos, desencantos,
Há Alegrias, há prantos,
Há Beleza sem idade.
Nesta minha Cidade
de cinzentos que são Azul
há rio de ouro, maresia
Há pontes para Sul.
Nesta minha Cidade
Vive-se, morre-se.
Luta-se, Ama-se,
Em Sentir-Eternidade.
Nesta minha Cidade
Gentes muito sofridas
Vivem em Humildade
A dor de profundas feridas.
Nesta minha Cidade
de granito e Coração,
há Escritores,Escultores,
há Artistas de eleição.
A minha Cidade
É Porto, é Abrigo.
E em melodia de Canção
É o "Porto Sentido"
eu
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I made up the above poem in a naive attempt to pay a tribute to My City, my hometown.
What I say is that in MY City there are good and bad things, ancient Beauty and simplicity.
There are Artists of different kinds but there are simple people too who suffer far from the public eye.
There is a "golden river" (the "Douro" ) and the sea.
There's granite and Heart.
My City is a port, is a shelter.
And In the melody of a song is also "Porto Sentido" (That's a popular song, sung by one of the most popular Portuguese singers - Rui Veloso" and "Porto Sentido" means approximately " Porto experienced with Feeling")

The lunatic, the lover, and the poet

Are of imagination all compact

A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Act v. Sc. 1.
